Event Description:
At this meeting, HR professionals will have the opportunity to learn best practices on managing Unemployment Insurance issues in their workplace.
We will cover:
-How we determine UI tax rates
-How to decide whether to report a worker as an independent contractor vs an employee
-How to handle wage detail reporting more easily
-What businesses can do to keep their UI costs down
-What businesses can do to prevent unnecessary charges to their UI account
-Tips on common UI mistakes, documenting HR issues, and contesting UI applications for workers who aren't eligible.

This session is geared toward HR professionals who are relatively inexperienced with UI issues as well as veteran staffers who simply need a brush up.

Aaron Tell is an Outreach/Communication Specialist with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED)'s Unemployment Insurance (UI) Program.  With over 19 years of experience in the Department, Aaron provides education and training to employers, people applying for unemployment benefits, and UI staff.  His duties also include gathering feedback from UI customers in user-testing sessions and then applying that information to improve the UI Self-Service System, correspondence, and the UI website for a better user experience.
