Understand the Communication Styles Around You and Increase Your Level of Influence by Mary C. Bodvarsson, Ph.D., St. Cloud State University
We all have great ideas about how to make our organizations better, but do those ideas get heard and, more importantly, implemented? When we need to give feedback to an employee, do we understand the best way to communicate it? When conversing with others, do we take full advantage of the “magic moment” in a conversation? To get the most out of our interactions with others, we need to really understand how best to communicate with each person. In this session, you will learn about the nuances of each of the major communication styles along with a quick way to assess both your own communication style, and those of the people you need to influence. In addition, we’ll talk about some of the do’s and don’ts when communicating with people of each style. Progress, growth, and understanding all start with healthy, effective communication.
