    This workshop will cover the top ten tips that internal HR professionals should know when faced with employee misconduct claims.  Topics include: how to evaluate which claims should be investigated; selection of an investigator; witness interview strategies; and report writing.

    In this webinar, participants will:

    1. Learn to properly assess a claim of misconduct and determine if investigation is necessary or appropriate.
    2. Learn how to interview the claimant, the respondent, and witnesses.
    3. Identify legal risks in investigations including both public and private sector requirements.

    Justin L. Terch MA, MBA is the Manager Partner of Terch & Associates LLC, a leading provider of workplace solutions in Minnesota and Northwestern  Wisconsin.  He is located in Duluth Minnesota. Justin has held the role of Human Resources Director for numerous organizations.  He has earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) designation from the HR Certification Institute. He completed his undergraduate education in Legal Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Superior and his graduate education in Business and Management at The College of St. Scholastica.  He is a graduate of the HR Compliance Program at Mitchell-Hamline School of Law.

    Justin has worked with public, private, and non-profit organizations in the areas of recruitment and executive search; labor-management relations; employee relations and internal investigations; conflict resolution and team-building; compensation and benefits planning; and many other areas. Justin is regularly contracted to help organizations diagnose and manage complex problems.  He is a frequent presenter and writer on topics affecting the workplace and is noted for his direct communication style and ability to listen with care. Justin is also Senior Lecturer of Human Resources and Conflict Resolution at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.  He can be reached at: justin@terchandassociates.com.

    Why do employers have plan documents? Many employers treat their plan document as boilerplate and just an item that needs to get checked off of the to do list. They may not even know why they have to maintain a plan document. The easy answer is that ERISA requires it. However, the plan document should be considered to be the blue print for the employer plan. It will tell the employer who is eligible,  under what circumstances and what the benefits are. In an age of increasing litigation it is vitally important that employers take their plan documents seriously and take the opportunity to make the decisions about who and what the plans will cover. That way, when there is a dispute, the employer will have its intentions followed.

    Welcome to the 2021 MNSHRM Leadership Conference! The content of this conference is geared towards leaders from all of the chapters throughout Minnesota but all are welcome to attend.

    Event details will be posted as soon as they are available.

    MNSHRM will cover the cost for the conference and the Sunday evening hotel for up to 7 leaders from each chapter; additional leaders are $225 each if they need a hotel room on Sunday and $95 each if they do not need a hotel room. 

    After completing the event registration with Marriott Reservations (877) 303-1681 or (763) 536-8300 by 2/9/21 to utilize our group rate of $129.00. You will be asked to provide a credit card at the time of registration to hold the reservation and for your incidental charges only.

    Hotel registrations made after 2/9/21 will need to be prepaid by attendee and submitted for reimbursement. MNSHRM will reimburse you at the rate no higher than the room block rate of $129.00/night plus tax.
