Why a Leadership conference? You may ask.

Our mission at Twin Cities SHRM is to provide high-quality professional development, information exchange, and networking opportunities for the Human Resource professional. One of the most visible ways we deliver on our mission is through our conferences. For years, we’ve hosted the Spring Conference that has grown to over 500 attendees. In 2019, we expanded our offerings with the Women’s Conference, and in 2020, we hosted a one-time Strengths Conference.

Each conference has provided a unique learning experience for those who attend. The Women’s Conference was born from the desire to offer learning opportunities from successful women. What started off as an event focused on celebrating and learning from women leaders evolved into so much more. The Women’s Conference became an event that inspired resilience, positive self-image, and fostering meaningful and rewarding relationships. It has been an honor to be a part of an event that has touched lives in such a meaningful way.

As amazing as the Women’s Conference has been for the past four years, it’s imperative to stay connected to the wants and needs of our membership and our community. At each event, we ask attendees what they want from TCSHRM and how we can provide value to them (and their organization). We ask what topics are important and how we deliver on our commitment to provide development for our HR community.

What tops that list time and time again is leadership.

Instinctively, we know leaders are important and have a tremendous impact in the workplace. Numerous research studies support that belief; one such study from Gallup says an employee’s manager accounts for 70% of the variance in employee engagement. There is not only a human benefit of high engagement, but also a financial one. Teams who are engaged are 17% more productive and 21% more profitable than those who aren’t, because when people are engaged, they tend to be more innovative and efficient.

We trust leaders to lead, guide, and develop their teams, so they can achieve their potential and be their very best. This ultimately helps organizations be at its very best. With so much to gain by learning how to be a trusted and impactful leader, it’s important for leaders to grow their skillset, build their confidence, and take bold action to lead courageously.

But leadership isn’t because of a title. Not all leaders have the title or formal authority. Leaders are those who have the ability to influence, guide, and impact outcomes. They foster collaboration among groups to accomplish what they couldn’t achieve working individually. Put another way: leadership is your behavior; it’s the “how.”

At Twin Cities SHRM, we are committed to providing opportunities for our HR professionals to grow and cultivate their leadership competency whether in a HR Leadership Role, People Manager or individual contributor. Further, we understand the desire for our members to bring their learnings back to their organization.

We are thrilled to announce our first ever Fall Leadership Conference on Thursday, October 26th at the Golden Valley Country Club! We are eager to provide attendees the opportunity to gain new insights, learn new skills, and acquire new tools to enable success as leaders in their organizations.

We hope you will join us for our first ever Leadership Conference – we are so excited to support our HR community in a new way!
