     Director-elect and membership director Candidates

    Director-Elect Candidate

    Justin Terch

Employer: Terch and Associates Consulting LLC

About Justin: I am the Managing Partner of Terch & Associates LLC, a leading provider of workplace solutions in Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin. He is located in Duluth Minnesota.

What SHRM Chapter do you belong to? Northland HRA

What qualities and attributes would you bring to the MNSHRM State Council? I am a direct communicator who can have significant opinions but I also am quite interested in the opinion of others. I like to hear pushback and alternative thoughts and I expect my colleagues to express their opinions openly and respectfully.

Which State Council positions are you interested in? Executive Board-Director-Elect

Do you have experience in this role?   I have experience overseeing a $1M budget and directly supervising staff.  I have experience in contract negotiations and building relationships inside and outside of the organization.

What do you believe to be the major issues facing human resources today? I feel the biggest issue facing our profession today is maintaining our strategic importance.  I think that this is much less an issue in large corporate organizations but most our members work in small and mid-size organizations.  One key reason for this is not having a cohesive and informed message and image.  SHRM national has done a good job increasing the profile of our through their national ad campaign. In MN, we have been generally silent on legislation affecting our industry and have not had a place at the table.

Other experience: Professional, communications, education or other information you think would be useful to your role on the MNSHRM State Council. See bio.

    Membership Director Candidate

    Tori Addison

    Employer: Hamline University

About Tori:  Fifteen+ years ago I fell into Human Resources and have not looked back. I truly feel to be an effective HR leader you have to be emphatic and have a heart to serve. I have had the pleasure to serve organizations both large and small and in the public and private sector. Each position has provided the opportunity to grow my skill set and expand my HR competencies. I can unequivocally say I love HR. Is what we do every day challenging and rewarding? Yes. Some days does it seem like you make progress yet the list continues to grow? Am I making a difference and advocating for what creates the best candidate and employee experience…a resounding yes. People are the driving force within an organization, supporting their development and growth is essential to the HR function.  It is also the key to successful organizations.

What SHRM Chapter do you belong to? Twin Cities SHRM

What qualities and attributes would you bring to the MNSHRM State Council? I strongly believe that my strengths will help me in being a partner and leader at MNSHRM

    • Inquisitive – Curiosity is at the heart of what HR does. We have to ask questions, be inquisitive and always want to know more. It’s what fuels the changes in our organization.
    • Strategic – The world of HR as we know it is changing. The workplace is involving. Finding alternatives to create great workplace will continue to be a challenge…it’s our challenge. Thinking out the box and being innovative will drive success in our organizations. I look forward to coming together with other thought leaders.
    • Communication – How are we processing the world around us and articulating the change that we see is coming? As well as creating policies and procedures that are compliant and transforms cultures. I am excited to have engaging conversation and bring subject matter expertise to the table.
    • Intellection – I am a constant thinker…a life long learner. The need to learn from others is just as strong as my desire to mentor and develop others
    • Realtor – Relationship building and making connections is especially important in HR.

Which State Council positions are you interested in? Director-Elect

Do you have experience in this role?  I have over 15 years of expirience in HR. I have been a generalist and a specialist. I know that my skill set would lend itself to being successul in any position. My passion is around Professional Development and DEIB, but I am happy to serve where I am most needed.

What do you believe to be the major issues facing human resources today? Now that is the million-dollar question. 1) If I had to narrow it down I would say that the desire for more wages and richer benefits is out of balance, resulting in employees wanting more than their employers can offer. 2)Societal and political pressures are causing the physical world of work to look like it has never looked before as well as the pressure for employers to meet ALL the needs for ALL their employee is becoming increasingly a challenge for leaders in organizations. 3) Talent management...what are the best ways to attract and retain top employees.
